چکیده

The primary properties of the existing large scale peer-to-peer system include very high heterogeneity and dynamic nature of the participating peers in the network. Properties of peers such as peer session length, accessible bandwidth, storage space are highly varied with small set of peers controlling large part of the total system resources which results in low performance of the system. The nature of peers randomly joining and leaving the network causes the topology mismatch which drastically affects the network traffic. By taking along the advantages of similarity-aware overlays, the proposed system tries to reduce the effect of heterogeneous peers in unstructured peer-to-peer networks. The system is evaluated with proper simulations and the results show improvement in the total system capability. KeywordsP2P, Unstructured, Overlays, Heterogeneity, Gnutella

Communication-Aware Traffic Stream Optimization for Virtual Machine Placement in Cloud Datacenters with VL2 Topology

By pervasiveness of cloud computing, a colossal amount of applications from gigantic organizations increasingly tend to rely on cloud services. These demands caused a great number of applications in form of couple of virtual machines (VMs) requests to be executed on data centers’ servers. Some of applications are as big as not possible to be processed upon a single VM. Also, there exists severa...

Node Swap: A Universal Mechanism to Make P2P Overlay Topology-aware

P2P computing has emerged as a popular model for utilizing information and resource in Internet. It is built upon an overlay whose topology is independent of the underlying physical network. Because of the mismatch between the overlay and physical network, small number of logical hops may result in a long delay and excessive traffic. In this paper, we propose a universal mechanism-“node swap” t...

A Mathematical Foundation for Topology Awareness of P2P Overlay Networks

In peer-to-peer (P2P) overlay networks, the mechanism of a peer randomly joining and leaving a network, causes a topology mismatch between the overlay and the underlying physical topology. This causes a large volume of redundant traffic in the underlying physical network as well as an extra delay in message delivery in the overlay network. Topology mismatch occurs because overlay networks are n...

A Novel Caching Strategy in Video-on-Demand (VoD) Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Networks Based on Complex Network Theory

The popularity of video-on-demand (VoD) streaming has grown dramatically over the World Wide Web. Most users in VoD P2P networks have to wait a long time in order to access their requesting videos. Therefore, reducing waiting time to access videos is the main challenge for VoD P2P networks. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for caching video based on peers' priority and video's popula...

Efficient Gnutella-like P2P Overlay Construction

Without assuming any knowledge of the underlying physical topology, the conventional P2P mechanisms are designed to randomly choose logical neighbors, causing a serious topology mismatch problem between the P2P overlay network and the underlying physical network. This mismatch problem incurs a great stress in the Internet infrastructure and adversely restraints the performance gains from the va...
